This evening, we board our overnight transatlantic flight for Gdansk, Poland, with meals and movies on board.
Sep. 12/Mon – GDANSK.
Upon arrival in Gdansk, we’ll be met by our guide and settle-in at the hotel. At this evening’s welcome dinner we will enjoy a performance by the Kaszuby ensemble presenting folklore of the region. (D)
Sep. 13/Tue – GDANSK.
Start the day with a comprehensive tour of beautiful city of Gdansk, splendidly restored to its former glory when it was one of the most prosperous ports of Europe in the middle ages. Visit the amber factory for some good shopping. Lunch is planned especially for us on the “Pirate” ship. Highlight of the day is the Chopin music concert in Jan’s family home with champagne and Polish doughnuts, “paczki”. Return to Gdansk via Lenin’s Shipyard, the birthplace of Solidarity. (B, L)
Sep. 14/Wed – GDANSK-Malbork-OLSZTYN.
This morning depart South for the peaceful Mazurian Lakes region, one of Poland’s favorite vacation areas. En route stop in Malbork to tour the Europe’s largest castle of the mighty Teutonic Knights in the 15th century. In the evening have fun at a “Mazurian wedding” party in a country estate. (B, D)
Sep. 15/Thu – OLSZTYN-BIALYSTOK.
After breakfast we head for Eastern Poland. Part of the journey is by boat through the lakes. (B, L)
Sep. 16/Fri – BIALYSTOK.
Today we’ll discover some of the tourist attractions of the region such as weaver’s workshop, center of Tatar culture, and a bison farm in Kiermusy. (B, L)
Sep. 17/Sat – BIALYSTOK-WARSAW.
This morning we depart for the Polish capital and settle-in at our deluxe hotel a short walk to the old town. Guided city tour includes the colorful Old Town with St. John’s Cathedral and the Royal Castle Square. Royal Route leads us to the beautiful Lazienki Park and admire the monument of Polish composer, F. Chopin. This evening’s dinner is planned in a local restaurant with more entertainment and a folklore performance. (B, D)
Sep. 18/Sun – WARSAW-CZESTOCHOWA-ZAKOPANE.
This morning we journey South to Czestochowa, pilgrimage center of Poland. We gather for an emotional Mass in the shrine of the miraculous icon of the Black Madonna. Pauline Father will give us a special tour of the Jasna Gora Monastery and its treasures. Then on to the resort of Zakopane hidden in the majestic Tatras to relax in our SPA Hotel. (B, L)
Sep. 19/Mon – ZAKOPANE.
Our exciting tour continues with an enjoyable day in this charming resort area. A funicular will take us to the Gubalowka mountain peak for a breathtaking views of the Tatras where we have time to browse a local bazaar for souvenirs. In the afternoon drive to Pieniny National Park for a nine-mile musical fun ride on rafts down the Dunajec River. Our day ends with dinner in a typical restaurant where we’ll be entertained by the “Gorale” and taste local specialties. (B, D)
Sep. 20/Tue – ZAKOPANE-Chocholow-KRAKOW.
After breakfast we depart for the medieval city of Krakow. Our route leads through the picturesque Chocholow village with unique architecture where we stop at the wood carver’s shop. Evening is free in Krakow. (B, D)
Sep. 21/Wed – KRAKOW.
This morning we will discover the medieval treasures of Krakow, city of legends and traditions which was spared destruction of World War II. Walking tour of the Old Town includes the impressive Wawel Hill with the Coronation Cathedral from where Polish kings ruled for four centuries. Afternoon you can spend at the Market Square full of souvenir shops, lively sidewalk cafes, museums and restaurants or take an optional tour to Wieliczka Salt Mines and discover its underground world of wonders carved from salt on a 1.5 mile tourist route. Sep. 22/Thu – KRAKOW.
On our last day you can take an optional tour to Auschwitz, former Nazi concentration camp, now a martyrdom museum, or just enjoy a day shopping for souvenirs at the arcaded Cloth Hall (Sukiennice) dating back to the 14th century or relaxing in a sidewalk cafe listening to the strolling musicians. Our farewell dinner with entertainment by Jan Lewan will end our unforgettable journey through Poland. (B, D)
Sep. 23/Fri – KRAKOW/USA.
After buffet breakfast, we depart for the airport and fly home. (B)
